Abandoned Detroit

Detroit is full of abandoned houses, and with the hard times and auto company layoffs, things are getting worse, not better. Once a house appears to be empty, thieves come in and strip away everything useful. Sometime squatters move in, but often, the abandoned houses burn.

Here is my newest sketch of BB, done last night at dinner:

That is such a sad sight and state of affairs. Offset by such a lovely drawing!

Sorry to see Detroit going downhill like that!

You have a wonderful model for your sketches.

I begin to associate the images of BB with desolate ruins...
A very good sketch, say hello to your model!

It is very sad. I mostly try to show the good and pleasant things. There are many ugly and sad things, too. :-(

Thank you for your kind comments!

I wish I could have seen this in its happier times. But photos like this really appeal to me....maybe cause it triggers my imagination.

Your imagination would get a real workout here, Rose! :-(

or :-D

depending on how you look at it.

One wonders how it will all end. Time magazine has been running a series about Detroit and its problems, but I haven't found the articles all valuable.

Now, your artistic skills are something to rave about! Excellent work. Of course it always help to have a great model with an upraised eyebrow!

BB is a very good and cooperative model. And if I keep practicing, maybe I will conquer likenesses or at least get a little better at them.

I do so worry about Detroit and also--where are the people who once lived int hese houses?

Love the drawing of BB!

Thanks, V!

I love drawing him; he's a very cooperative model if you ever want to borrow him. LOL!

(He's been working 58-hour weeks, so he hasn't much modeling time though.)

an abandoned house is like someone abandoned;
as clothing impregnated with the smell of the person who lived ...
nostalgic and poignant!
