Boatwells and Freighter, Pier Park

Pier Park is right on Lake St. Clair. You can see that most of the boatwells are still empty. And in the background, a freighter going by in the shipping channel--the rest of the lake is fairly shallow.

Shipping Channel

This ship is "parked" in the shipping channel in the Detroit River between Canada/Windsor and Detroit/USA. It may be parked there because the channel narrows and perhaps another boat is coming. Taken from Belle Isle looking toward the Ambassador Bridge.

Last of the season

The last sailboat, the last sandcastle. I don't think we'll be having any more of these days til spring 2009. It was the last Indian Summer Day, and it's over (I think). The slips are empty of boats and the sand is bulldozed back from the water to preserve it til next year.

I will be away until the 18th. I am going to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I may or may not be able to get on-line.

Buoy Boat, Classic Car

From Belle Isle, which is part of Detroit, Michigan, you can see Windsor, Canada and watch the Canadian Buoy Boats servicing the buoys in the Detroit River. Also the party boats (and gulls--see yesterday).

Life goes on every day, and we're having fun--AND getting psyched for the Woodward Dream Cruise Classic Car parade and activities coming up Saturday, the day after tomorrow. We had to give up a chance to stay at the Radsisson Hotel (a nice hotel!) because Piano Boy has his Summer Select Choir concert tomorrow night, but we're looking forward to riding in the parade. Wahoo! Looks like a great, sunny and warm.

Motor City artists, musicians and producers with links to the early days of Motown and Detroit rock n’ roll, have collaborated to create a new, original song—Drive On!—for the Woodward Dream Cruise, as the group continues to work on completion of an entire CD of official cruisin’ music.

Storm over Pier Park (Home again)

We arrived home last night and took a short walk at Pier Park. The rain had followed us down from the U.P.! We were on our bikes but it poured!

I made two sketches of our trip in my Moleskine which you can see here.

Lake St. Clair at Sunset with Sailboat

This sailboat was coming in for the night just as the sun was setting.

Piano Boy had his first solo recital today. I haven't downloaded the pix yet. When I do, if any are any good, I will post a link here.

Sailboat race on Lake St. Clair (Superboat) and My backyard journal

I took a zillion pix, may post more another day. But today, I thought
I'd show superboat, with its cape. LOL! It was late in the evening
and also cloudy and hazy.

The back yard journal is continued from yesterday.

I deeply apologize for not getting commenting done, but we are all
tied up with end of the year recitals and graduation plans and
rehearsals etc, plus planting and weeding and outdoor stuff--work
during the day and work in the yard and do kid stuff etc in the
evening. I hope to catch up soon.

Later today, we hope to go to the HUGE Detroit Arts Festival--a really
big deal. BB is at work until 3. PB is sleeping still. If we go, in
addition to the piles of pix I took at Metrobeach, the sailboat race
and Belle Isle, I'll have Detroit Art Festival pix, too.

Evening, Belle Isle Casino

The Belle Isle Casino lit at night, Casino reflections in a puddle--we've had LOTS of rain in the past few days, Casino reflections with a bench, freighter passing on the Detroit River as seen from the casino. The trees, which are quite large, give an idea of the size of it. Click images to view larger.

Reconstruction on the Ste Clair Boblo Boat

Through many years of disuse, the Ste Claire Boblo boat is in pretty bad shape. All the work on reconstruction, at this point, is being done by volunteers. Eventually, some professional work will need to be done and they are trying to earn money for that by selling postcards and giving tours etc. They are putting up tarps to keep out the weather during the work, returning life preservers to the ceiling where they used to be kept, uncovering painted over glass, etc. The stained glass here is seen from 1st the outside and then the inside. For more information, see link in the first post in this series.

The View from Boblo Boat of Detroit

1)The Tri-Centennial Lighthouse and Detroit Skyline from the Ste. Clair. (See previous post)
2)The possessions of the Unpossesed, one of the street people who live in the Global Trading Company across from the Boblo Boat. Cars had to Dodge to avoid him.

This post is for Tuesday, October 2nd.

Ste Claire, Boblo Boat

The Ste Claire was one of two boats that ran from Detroit down to Boblo Island where an amusement park was located. It is now in the process of being renovated. Read more about it here. Read about the Columbia, the other Boblo boat here. It's headed eventually for the Hudson River in NY.

The Ste Claire is currently docked at the new and still unfinished Tri-Centennial Urban State Park in Downtown Detroitl.
