Dundurn Castle, Hamilton (Road Show)

It looks like a pretty little chapel--but it's not. It's a cock-fighting arena found on the grounds of the Dundurn Castle in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. (Note that there are still trees with leaves on them!)

This is the mansion (Castle) to which the cockfighting arena belongs.

And this is the man, Sir Allan Napier MacNab, who had both built for himself and his family.

We are "on the road" and may be behind on commenting.

I'm very surprised. I thought the bird fighting was more of a "Carribean" thing.

Who can waste time and money building a cockfighting arena? Thanks for this weird pearl! The castle is really impressive, cockfighting facilities apart...

We found it strange! (We had an even stranger thing happen today, which I may write about.)

That was why I posted it! THANKS! :-D

Cock fighting in that area...never heard of such a thing...in the south, yes, but north of the Mason-Dixon Line...nah...

Sheesh, I learn something new every day!

Fascinating photos, Mary.

I know, I agree, it's sort of shocking that such a lovely place could be used for such a purpose.

I doubt that cock fighting is legal these days - it may have been at one time, though. There have been several major arrests in Ontario in the past year.

Well, it was in the 1800s, so laws may have been different then.
