Dodge Park/Clinton River

Here's a few more shots from Dodge Park, along the Clinton River,
about a half-hour north west of us.

It's sort of odd and disturbing, to me, to have a paved trail through
the woods. It's a multiuse trail for walkers, bikers and
Rollerbladers, and we nearly got run over multiple times. The trail
looks empty here, but sometimes it was totally clogged. The woods
were full of wildflowers, but most people were either ignoring them or
illegally picking them. It was a beautiful spot, but way over-used.
One thing about this area is the paucity of good wild areas, nature
areas, and recreation spots, so that the few that there are have a lot
of population pressure!

Very few bikers are courteous, the way most bikers used to be, saying,
"on your left" or "on your right" to let you know they are approaching
at a rapid rate. I think it is very sad what the world is coming to
in many respects, including these small ones.

One of my pet hates is riders on bicycles bipping their horns behind me to move aside when I'm trying to photograph a bird. Of course the birds fly away not only from horns but bikes! Not to mention bikes aren't allowed where I photograph ... I won't start about illegal dogs off leashes in restricted areas ...

I can clearly imagine what you say about the crowds in these scenes, but they sure look beautiful and peaceful in your photographs :)

I never think to take pictures when the hordes are visible. AK! I am not fond of hordes! I prefer peaceful nature scenes.

The flowers are Trout Lilies, Erythronium americananum.

I also hate the way mountain bikers are destroying the paths. (Not the paved ones).

Oops, actually, they are Erythronium albidum, the "White Fawn Lily," or white Trout Lilies.
