POSTCARD/ROADTRIP: Pinery

We're home from camping at the Pinery in Ontario, Canada--had a great
time. Pretty good weather, cool, but that's OK with us. It's raining
like mad now, at home, so I am glad that didnt' happen at the
Pinery--we did have a few brief showers--but they were very brief and
fairly light and then gone.

Balduck Park near Dusk

I walk by this park every day on my way to the cottage. It's a
favorite party spot, dog-walking spot, and in winter, there's a
sledding hill.

Bleachers at Balduck Park

I am not sure why the bleachers at the ball diamond at Balduck Park look like this--all broken up--but they do.

I am very sorry that I've been working at the cottage all weekend, and there is no internet there. I'm working there so much I am falling way behind. Here's one of the rooms I've been working on, still not done. SLOW WORK!

Skip Gibson, Canoe Restorer

Skip Gibson lives near us and restores old canoes. This one he is
practically rebuilding from scratch, as it is so badly damaged. He is
teaching the boy the craft--I unfortunately forgot the boy's name--if
anyone knows, please tell me. The boy is a junior at South. I'm so
glad the old craft is being passed on to the younger generation. Skip
graduated from high school in 1951 if you want to do the math. He's
very interesting and informative and told us a lot about his work.
you can see a video of Skip Gibson on you tube here.

Dodge Park

Dodge park: there are lots of spring wildflowers--these are wild blue
phlox. The woods are flooded from excess rain. The fungus popping
out on all the trees is Polyporous squamosa.

I am way behind on email and on commenting because I ahve very limited
internet access right now. Hope to catch up at some point.

At Foster Birds Again

Foster Birds is an organization which, during hard times, helps people who have to move into smaller places where they can't have pets etc, but keeping the birds temporarily. Click the Foster Birds link to read more about it. They helped me out by giving me a cage for my
baby squirrel, which I will release back into the wild as soon as it's old enough, in about 5 weeks or so. I enjoyed meeting two of the African Grey parrots that belong to Theresa of Foster Birds. If you haven't already seen the other one and want to, click here or simply go to yesterdya's post.

time.
