A visit to the "beautiful island," Belle Isle

Yesterday, we went to Belle Isle, visited the conservatory, went for a walk at Nashua Creek, and stopped at the Ice Palace.

The first collection shows views of the conservatory from the outside, the second some shots inside.

The conservatory is famous for its orchid collection.

On our walk along Nashua Creek, we found a dead raccoon.

Finally, the ice Palace is started to melt from days of above freezing temperatures.

I expect to probably show a few more shots from this visit tomorrow and maybe later. This is an overview of what you might see if you accompanied us on this particular expedition. There's LOTS more to see on Belle Isle.

What I like most about this series, other than the photographs are excellent, is that we seldom get to see a positive side of the Detroit area...usually we see abandoned, run-down houses and factories...it looks like an abandoned and desolate city...

So, in spite of all its problems, it is good to see the good things!

Merci!

Well, there ARE plenty of abandoned buildings and whole areas in Detroit, and abandoned houses, factories, stores etc. But there are also good and beautiful things, a vibrant arts community, nature.

Thanks, Jacob.

Hi Kelly, I keep missing the monthly theme days myself. But let me try.

Thanks VP and Pamela.

I'm always sad about dead animals and birds.

What a great set. The building reminds me of when my son and I visited the national botanical gardens in DC. It was a wonderful day. And the ice formations remind me of Vermont. I loved looking at all of these.

Thanks, Andree! If you're ever in the area, you might enjoy a visit. It's not as pristine as Vermont of New Hampshire, but it's nice if you live in the city! (I miss Vermont and New Hampshire!)

Still tons of snow - will you ever dig out?

You must live on the outskirts of Detroit, not in the city proper.

What a beautiful place.

Belle Isle is in the heart of Detroit, believe it or not!!!

Yup, we're dug out!
