This section of the Presque Isle River is just above the mouth of the river where it flows into Lake Superior in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Here, it is not much of a wilderness, because it is near the road, but if you hike off onto any of the many trails, you see hardly anyone. There are a series of falls, as well as caves and ledges. The largest is Manabezho, and is named for the Great Spirit of the Native Americans of this area. The "Porkies" are located in the far upper western end of the Upper Peninsula. (7/15/08)
I'll be going as a blogger and guest of GM to the 14th annual Woodward Dream Cruise at www.woodwarddreamcruise; I'll be telling you more about it as it approaches. It's the world's largest one-day automotive event. It runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on August 16th along Woodward Avenue, through nine host communities, from Ferndale to Pontiac.
New sketch.

The Dunes at Crystal Lake, Michigan (Postcard)
7/9/08 We wandered around on the huge dunes between Crystal Lake and
Lake Michigan. It's hard to convey the impressive size of them.

Postcard from Syracuse, Day 2: Salt Museum
On Sunday, June 29, we went to the Salt Museum in Liverpool, NY (a suburb of Syracuse, on Onondaga Lake). We learned about the salt industry in Syracuse and Liverpool.
I am back-posting this and there are three other back-posted posts from this trip, so far, posted earlier.

Day 1 postcard, Some Syracuse Buildings
1> City Hall
2> The State Tower Building
3> State Office Building
4> I forget the name of this one, but it is interesting because it is long, narrow and triangular.

All viewed from the Hill Bullding. (I think). The orchids were in an office in that building. Taken 6/28/08. I am back posting these due to the Embassy Suites not having free internet. (Also we were pretty busy!)
Also, I back-posted two previous sets from day one in Syracuse.

Regional Farmer's Market, Syracuse, NY (postcard)
I was unable to get on-line while I was in Syracuse. They charge $10/day to use the internet--I will NEVER stay there again. Since we spent very little time in the room, I did not think it was a fair charge, and many places provide it for free.
So I am back-posting pictures from the trip. On our first day, we went to the Farmer's market. I love farmer's markets! How fun!
"Yesterday" has a back-post too. These go with "yesterday," Day 1 of our visit (or Day 2, but we spent the day before driving all day).

Day 1, Breakfast at the Embassy Suites in East Syracuse (postcard)
The first day of our trip to Syracuse, NY. Shots of the Embassy Suites, the hotel where we stayed and had breakfast. It was a pretty fancy hotel for us. But we did not make use of many of the amenities--we never swam in the pool, went to the manager's reception, used the exercise rooms, or the hot tub, etc etc. The cook-to-order breakfast was pretty good, though.
I am calling this a "postcard" because I am "sending" it from another location other than Detroit. I will call all my away posts postcards, and will be back posting them
I was unable to post while I was away because the Embassy Suites charged $10/day to use the internet, which I thought was absurd and unfair, considering the cost of the rooms and the fact that their on-line web page listed it as an amenity of the room, and most places offer it for free. I will never go there again. (Boycott them!)
