This section of the Presque Isle River is just above the mouth of the river where it flows into Lake Superior in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Here, it is not much of a wilderness, because it is near the road, but if you hike off onto any of the many trails, you see hardly anyone. There are a series of falls, as well as caves and ledges. The largest is Manabezho, and is named for the Great Spirit of the Native Americans of this area. The "Porkies" are located in the far upper western end of the Upper Peninsula. (7/15/08)
I'll be going as a blogger and guest of GM to the 14th annual Woodward Dream Cruise at www.woodwarddreamcruise; I'll be telling you more about it as it approaches. It's the world's largest one-day automotive event. It runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on August 16th along Woodward Avenue, through nine host communities, from Ferndale to Pontiac.
New sketch.

I miss hiking the Porkies and fishing the Presque Isle River...
Wow, the weather seems to have been nicer where you were today than it was in Westport (we had several storms). Bonne nuit, Mary, and thank you for your nice comment!
The Porkies are so PRETTY and so is the river. It was stormy here, too! The pictures were taken on the 15th. I haven't been out much yet since I got back.
Thanks, Ladies!
OK, I know who is in the first picture, but is that you spread out on on the rock in the second picture?
Nope, just a stranger--I was the one behind the camera.
The second photograph is a classic!
I especially love the last photo. I could just sit there and let time pass me by.
Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comments.
joy
