July 9 was a travel day, lots of driving. We drove down from the UP into the Lower Penninsula, crossing the Mackinac Bridge across the straights. Before we did that, we drove through Trout Lake, where I begged BB to stop for a picture--he sat in the car while I dashed out to grab the shot. There was no one in view, but when we'd been there earlier, after Tahquamenon, the place was full of folks and Western Garb, looked like a movie setting except for all the antennae!
We camped at Kneff lake, on a steep embankment over the lake. There was a loud party below us, and when it broke up, they left their fire burning.
For Detroit, I am posting one of my own new paintings. I am, after all, a Detroit artist. :-D

Great photos, love the western-style building. Your painting is wonderful. I thought it was an actual photo until I read the caption.

Mary, that painting is just beautiful....I LOVE it....and I like that photo above it also. I just love sitting by a wood fire.
Wonderful shot of Trout Lake general store. Do you know the one at Melstrand General Store on H58?
Thanks so much Mason, Rose and Helen!!! :-D
Mason and Rose, I spent 3-4 WEEKS on that painting--which for me is a long time. I wanted to get it right, little by little. The photo I used for reference is a little different. I'd have to take it out of it's frame and scan it, because it's an old film photo. I'm glad the painting looks so real!
Helen, I don't know that one. I've only been to the UP 4 times in my life, and don't know my way around at all. I LOVE IT up there, though, and would love to go back and spend more time. Do you have a photo online for me to see?
I love wood fires, too. And it was so peaceful, after all the rowdy boys left (young men?)
Mary, I will have to look back in my photos to see if I took a picture of the store. Gene has a T-shirt from there, but the store may now be gone.
Did you drive H58 through Pictured Rocks? If so you might have passed it.
Will see what I can find for you.
Yes, we did. But there is so much to see that is unfamiliar--I may have even seen it. I just saw so much. Don't worry, don't hassle over it, I was just curious--thought you might have posted something.
