At the Village Market

Sidewalk displays along the front wall of the Village Market on Mack. We do 90% of our shopping here and I can and do walk almost every day.

Leaving Saturday and will be away just over a week.

Aug 16, I will participating and reporting on the Woodward Dream Cruise as a blogging guest of GM. The Woodward Dream Cruise is an alcohol-free, family-oriented event. It's a big parade, festivities, vintage cars and other vehicles, and what a blast. If you go, say hi to me.

I have a pinched nerve in my neck that makes using the computer painful. So please be patient with slow responses, since I'll be away for a week and am having problems using the computer!

See three sketches from The Temptation Of Eve. I did them last night for part of a project.

Churches and abandoned buildings

Two lovely old Churches side by side with two different abandoned buildings! Detroit is a city of contrasts!

Also two pix BB took of me camping in the UP. The first is working on the computer (I coudln't get on-line) by the campfire--it was COLD--and the second was on the escarpment trail above Lake of the clouds--I was pointing out a a Lake of the clouds cloud! LOL!

News: I will be away Saturday the 2nd through Saturday the 9th. And maybe longer.

When I return, I will be a guest at the Woodward Dream Cruise and taking pix for Detroit Daily of the events and vintage cars! YAY! It'll be fun for sure. The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world's largest one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts over 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles. The Woodward Dream Cruise takes place each year on the third Saturday in August. This year, the 14th annual Cruise is Saturday, August 16, 2008. It runs between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Poetry at the Detroit Opera House

I went--BY MYSELF--(and got lost both coming and going)--to theDetroit Opera House to hear a poetry reading.

1)the Opera House
2)Opera house and people mover
3,4,5)Poets reading their work

I will be away again Saturday though Saturday, August 2-9 or 10. We will be in upstate NY with my family burying my folks.

When I return, I will be attending the Woodward Dream Cruise with Biker Buddy as a guest of GM and will be blogging about it.

I have been away a lot and am behind. I hope to catch up on commenting, but I have to go to the store as we are out of food, and catch up and crucial things at home. Hope to visit you soon!

If you like poetry, you can read a poem that I wrote during my vacation to the UP. The descriptions in the poem are about stuff we actually saw and heard while there.

SS City of Milwaukee

We toured the S.S. City of Milkwaukeee which is a national Historical
Monument/Park located in Manistee, Michigan, USA. The first City of
Milkwaukee went down in a storm. This was railroad car ferry and
these only a few of the pictures we too--probably about 200 pix! It
was VERY interesting. The man in two of the pictures who is not Biker
Buddy was out tour guide. He gave us SO much information!!!! I could
never remember it all, I should have taped it! One thing he told us
was that the lifeboats never saved any lives because they took too
long to deploy. The railroad car ferries saved the railroad a lot of
time and were very important until new tracks and hubs were laid
through Chicago and then they became obsolete. The SS Milwaukee was
one of the best and fastest and had engine improvements that allowed
it to be more const effective and therefor ran longer than many of the
others. 7/10/08

Been away for a couple days. And--advance warning--am leaving
Saturday or Sunday for Upstate NY for a week.

Pictured (not Painted) Rocks (they looked painted!)

We Took the Painted Rocks Boat Cruise, fun! It was foggy at first, but we broke out into the sun! YAY! What spectacular views of the colorful cliffs and bluffs! This tour began in Munising, up in the northern edge of the UP. The lighthouse (East Channel Light) was hard to see in the fog, but was of an old shingled and clapboard construction and very interesting. 7/18/08.

(You can see my newest vacation art sketch here. It's a gull with a blue crab claw from Lake Michigan.)

As usual, you can enlarge the pictures by clicking on them.

More from the Presque Isle River Roadshow (postcard)

Such contrasts between the power of the falls and the little pools with tadpoles! Such a LOVELY place to visit--we deeply enjoyed it. (7/15/08)

I'll be going as a blogger and guest of GM to the 14th annual Woodward Dream Cruise at www.woodwarddreamcruise; I'll be telling you more about it as it approaches. It's the world's largest one-day automotive event. It runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on August 16th along Woodward Avenue, through nine host communities, from Ferndale to Pontiac. Lots of classic cars!

Storm over Pier Park (Home again)

We arrived home last night and took a short walk at Pier Park. The rain had followed us down from the U.P.! We were on our bikes but it poured!

I made two sketches of our trip in my Moleskine which you can see here.

1923 Studebaker and Old Twin Cities Tractor, Whitehall (postcard)

We stopped at an auto repair place in Whitehall to look at some old vehicles. This 1923 Studebaker is ripe for repairs and upgrades--it works fine, I saw it being driven. Biker Buddy got to drive the old tractor. Note that the factory workers who built these babies were almost all women!

Biker Buddy and I both love old vehicles and here's a little advance warning: We're planning on attending the Woodward Dream Cruise. I'll tell you more about it on upcoming days. It is Saturday August 16.

Hart Historical (Postcard)

Hart Michigan's Historical area. The old Yellow-brick church is typical of Ontario, Canada, but also found in parts of Michigan. The last shot is the motel we stayed in the night before my son's concert at Blue Lake--where we could bathe for the first time in well over a week!
