Elmwood Cemetery, Buhl Mausoleum

Yesterday, we took a day off from working at the cottage and working my novel and took a walk at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit. It's a very old cemetery and unless something interferes, I will post a few more pictures of it in the upcoming days. It's located near downtown, adjacent to Mr. Elliot Cemetery, off Mt. Elliot Street, which comes off Jefferson, which runs into downtown.

We also walked at the Heidelberg Project and I may post some pictures from there in the next few days as well.

Well, that's certainly fascinating...who were the Buhl's, do you know.

Another series of great photos, Mary! I'll look forward to seeing more of the cemetery...

Christian H. Buhl, the first Republican mayor of Detroit, MI, founder of Buhl, Sons & Co. Frank H. Buhl (1848 – 1918), “Father of the industrial Shenango Valley”, founded and managed several steel-related companies in Western Pennsylvania in the late nineteenth century. After selling his steel interests to J.P. Morgan in 1902, he became a land developer and the first man to utilize the “Carey Irrigation Act” by reclaiming 250,000 acres of dessert in the west. Donating hundreds of acres of land back to the communities he developed, Buhl, ID and Buhl, MN are both named after their benefactor. He was also the first American to invest in the Philippines after the Spanish American war and built the electric trolley system in Manila.

Holy cow, Mary! You must have done a bit of research...very interesting and it sounds like he was a very unusual and productive person.

Thanks much!

The pattern of the door is amazing.
Somehow Celtic but without the knots.

Thank you so much Jacob, Brigitte and Bhavesh.

Jacob, I really enjoyed doing this research. I was interesting to me.

I left you an award on today's post. It's a passed on award, but at some point, I may try to make one for just you. I'm working on a novel right now and between that and other commitments, I'm ultra busy!
