Skywatch Friday: Kites

There were hundreds of kites in the air at Metrobeach. And this is what the sky looked like in the windy waves of the pond.

Here is my newest art piece:

A Bird in the Hand, first half of a collaboration with Mike Kline in Ash's Mole. BB and I took a hike at Dodge park and at the far end, farther than we'd ever been before, we found this dead robin in some branches that looked like a skeletal hand so that's what I made it into. This is in the front of the Mole, as there aren't enough pages for everyone otherwise.

I did it in ballpoint pen and gouache. Click image to view larger.

The drawing is incredible.

These kites are more sophisticated than ones I had as a kid - don't they get snagged on the trees?

I love the photos. The kites look like something strange landing. :) Your drawing is very detailed and impressive.

I love the unexpected color of the kites in that first photo...I like the other one too, but that first is sort of special.

Thank you all so much! :-D

The kites a huge and farther back than they look. There is a big lawn on the other side, and a parking lot--so they are not in danger of getting into the trees. I just liked the way they looked from there.

In the first photo, I really like the color against the brown...but I expected more green by this time.

The second shot is extraordinary! Very fine capture.

The drawing took me by surprise and I'm glad you explained it...what a creative mind you have! Excellent work, as usual!

Re the hot sauces...we didn't try them...but from what Justin said they go from pretty darn hot to AAAAAAARGH!

Jacob, the lawn grass is just starting to green up here, but tall grasses, like the phragmites here, are all still brown.

Thanks--

and I love hot sauces, but not the Armageddon varieties.
