The Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival (postcard, road show)

NO. I am NOT home yet. I'm in Syracuse, NY after spending 4 days at the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival. It was fabulous! More later.

From left to right, Brenda Hillman, Jane Hirshfield, Ted Kooser (poet laureate 2004-2006--I was exhausted when I first posted this, duh.) Taken 9/26 at Festival.

My Kitchen Window

These are my African violets, gift of Dawn McDuffie--makes me officially an old lady (not my age, though, of course, LOL!!!) I am leaving shortly for Pennsylvania camping, then on to NJ--camping--it's supposed to rain the whole time--wahn! but this will prolly be my last post until I return and I will not be able to comment--I will not be online.

Masts on Lake St. Clair

Masts on Lake St. Clair, by Mary Stebbins Taitt.

as viewed from Pier Park.

NOTE: I am leaving tomorrow to drive to the Dodge Poetry Festival. I
will be camping along the way and when I get there so prolly won't be
on-line. I will be back in about a week and a half.

FATUSHA'S

I wanted to go here and get my hair braided for my wedding, but I never did. I didn't know if she'd do nonAfrican hair.

I am leaving Tuesday morning for an 8-day trip and since I will be camping, often in remote places, I probably will be unable to post most of the time.

Pier Park

They took down the little lighthouse and erected a frog instead. I
like the frog, but I miss the lighthouse.

There are signs all over saying no fishing in harbor or boatwelss, but
everyone does anyway.

We get there by motorcycle if it isn't raining.

Best of all is the sunset boat races. YAY!

The first picture is cut off because I'm trying to learn to make the pictures bugger but am not very successful yet. If you click on it you can see the whole picture.

Out the back window and . . .

Squirrels at the bird bath and feeder. Is the third one blind. (See article in Abraham Lincoln's Sunshine.)* The last one is Piano Boy singing in That's Entertainment.

Old Man Lincoln's pictures are better than mine, too. I wish I knew how to make mine bigger.

Mall Train

BB and I were walking through the mall off Vernier/8 mile road and
heard a beep beep and turned to see a TRAIN approaching through the
mall--new to us! People were riding along happily relaxed. Since it
was pouring rain outside and I couldn't walk outside, we were at the
mall to walk--mall walking (ugh!), so we didn't ride the train.

Houses etc

This beautiful Cobblestone house a few blocks from where I live was
sale and I kept eying it, thinking I wanted to but it but it's pending
a sale now. (First two pix). The Third picture is a house on the
block behind us. And we finally got rain. YAY! The garden is happy.
The last one is one of my new paintings.

3 Peeks at the Zoo

The wolverine played with an antler for a long time, but I was on the
phone and missed the shot. The peacock was taking a dust bath. And
the Zebras were enjoying a very lush Serengheti.

Pewabic Pottery

Pewabic Pottery is famous in Detroit and for quite a ways beyond
Detroit. They made pottery and tiles and their tiles are used
everywhere in Detroit, inside and outside buildings, fireplaces,
entryways, all over. They are located on Jefferson a ways out from
downtown and have a wonderful store. We have some Pewabic tiles and
doodads at our house.

These are not from the butterfly garden at the zoo, but fromt he

lace. The last one is looking up into a geranium blossom. Tomorrow I
hope to post some pix from Peweabic Pottery. (Hope I remember!) (Hope

Scarecrow contest entry

There's a scarecrow contest going on in our area. I liked this one
because it's for Habitat for Humanity.

Art Supplies, and environs

The Art Supply store that used to be right near the Art Museum (DIA)
in the cultural district has moved 4 blacks farther away. Now to get
to it, you have to drive though an underpass in a building. There you
are greeted by a huge new building. Across from the underpass is the
Detroit museum of COntemporary art. I think it may be undergoing
renovations.

Water and flowers, Detroit Zoo

You may not think of a Zoo as a place to enjoy waterfalls, ponds and
flowers, but the Detroit Zoo is full of them. They are manmade
waterfalls, but still pretty and refreshing on a hot day, and the
gardens are splendid!

Education Building at the Detroit Zoo

This is a beautiful new building at the Zoo, but I've never been
inside it. Whenever I go to the zoo, I want to see the animals. I've
also included another view of the Bear Fountain at the Zoo.

The Butterfly House at the Detroit Zoo

Such a treat to see all the butterflies so close up.  I apologize for not getting the names of the butterflies, but it was almost closing time and I had to dash away.
