Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in moonlight

Full Moon!

I am now the Detroit Walking Examiner at Examiner.com. Here's my latest article:

The Nashua Creek Walk at Belle Isle offers lovely views of the wooded waterway with overhanging trees and many scenic vistas. Newcomers to the trail will be amazed that such a wild place exists so close to downtown Detroit. Walkers will be thrilled to see ducks, geese, herons, and many species of birds. Several photo-op footbridges cross the creek. Be sure to bring your camera or cell phone for a few captures of the fantastic views. Read more.

This is another shot of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and Lake St. Clair.

In the Shipping Channel

The shipping channel through Lake St. Clair, which is a shallow lake, is very busy with freighters coming and going.

That IS a party boat in the distance, but the sky over Lake St. Clair is the real subject, LOL!

Skywatch Friday: Sailors Beware

Sunrise over Lake St. Clair, showing the leading and retreating edge of ice from the night being below freezing. And now it's raining.

And here is my latest art piece, a modified fractal:

Pier Park a week ago

These pictures were taken a week ago, and I hate to say it, but I haven't been back since. My guess is that the ice is all gone. But I can't swear to it.

1)the community building and empty boats slips
2)one of the few residents at this season
3)rotting ice
4)incoming ice packs from Lake St. Clair

And here is my latest art piece:

From the Providence of Dreams, by me--a digitally manipulated fractal art-piece. I made the original fractal from which this came using Xaos, a free fractal download for macs. (Click to view image larger.)

Skywatch Friday: 3 skies over Lake St. Clair

The ice is rotting with the warm weather and starting to go out. You can see the sky changing as the storm is coming in. These were all taken from Pier Park looking out onto Lake St. Clair. For some reason, I am having difficulty editing the html on these to make them larger as I have been, so if you'd like to see them bigger, you will have to click on the images.

Spring Fever in the Big D!

There's still snow on the ground. Not as much, but still plenty in some spots! But its WARM and people are out celebrating sunshine! People are skateboarding and rollerblading and sitting out in the sun and flying kites. They are lying on the beach. This was odd to see, because Lake St. Clair is still FROZEN and full of ice-fisherman!!!

Algae

A few days back, I posted mountain ranges of algae. Here's another view. This is on the shore of Lake St. Clair. On the public beaches, this will all be cleaned up before summer, but in out-of-the way places, it hangs around all year.

The lighthouse is not a real lighthouse, but part of a restaurant. Lighthouses are everywhere around here, both real ones and fake ones.

A Matter of Scale

No, they aren't mountain ranges or dirt hills or cliffs, they are heaps of algae melting through the snow at the shore of Lake St Clair.

TODAY IS MY DEADLINE for the FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION. WISH ME LUCK!

Skywatch Friday: Ice Fishing at Detroit's Metrobeach

We walked first at Metrobeach's Nature Center and then went over to check out the ice fisherman and were greeted by this view from the parking lot. You can click on the image to see it slightly larger, and check out the shanties of the ice-fisherman.

If you don't like the weather in Detroit . . .

. . . wait 5 minutes and it will change. The second picture was actually taken about ten minutes after the first and looking approximately in the same direction from a few feet away. In the second picture, it was snowing like mad but windy enough to blur it so you can't see the falling snow.

Schools were closed today--it snowed all day yesterday. GB (formerly PB) was delighted. (PB quit taking piano lessons and is now taking guitar lessons).

I am sorry I am still having computer problems. I'm in the process of solving them but it's taking longer than I expected.

Also here is a quick pencil sketch I made of myself in the car looking in the tiny mirror behind the visor. (NO, B, I wasn't driving, I was riding shotgun!) The reason I look so starey and bug-eyed I think is because I was looking in that little mirror so hard to try and see myself in the speeding, bouncing car. The sketch is actually a little bigger, but it wouldn't fit all on the scanner. Click image to view it a little larger.

Skywatch Friday, Pier Park

I know I recently published a similar picture, but I couldn't resist another one. This is Pier Park "Off Season". Lake St. Clair.

I'm also sorry I'm behind on commenting--we've had some health issues here and several trips to the hospital (3 so far) (not counting tests), but hopefully, things are looking up and I will try to catch up!

Visit Skywatch Friday for lots more sky pix!
