July 11, Vacation Day 13, Blue Lake

This was the last day of our vacation. We drove to Blue Lake, took a walk where I photographed these bladder campions, went to CB's concert at Blue Lake Fine arts Camp (CB is choir boy, our son, also known as PB for Piano Boy and GB for guitar boy). The concert was amazing! Fantastic. Back home again in Detroit, poor BB had to work on the car.

CB is the thin kid just to the left of the conductor. His hands are down at his side because he has memorized all the music. Smart kid. He made chamber choir, as well as the regular choir. (The photo is of chamber choir, which is smaller.)

July 10, Vacation Day 12: Whitehall

On the 12th day of our vacation, we drove from Kneff Lake to Whitehall. We took a walk in Whitehall, and I photographed some murals. Also the car, which reminded me of Detroit.

For Detroit, today, I have a picture of Woodward Ave in downtown Detroit.

I am leaving all the images small except the first to cut down on loading time for those with small connections. Click on them to see them larger.

July 9, Vacation Day 11: Trout Lake, Kneff Lake

July 9 was a travel day, lots of driving. We drove down from the UP into the Lower Penninsula, crossing the Mackinac Bridge across the straights. Before we did that, we drove through Trout Lake, where I begged BB to stop for a picture--he sat in the car while I dashed out to grab the shot. There was no one in view, but when we'd been there earlier, after Tahquamenon, the place was full of folks and Western Garb, looked like a movie setting except for all the antennae!

We camped at Kneff lake, on a steep embankment over the lake. There was a loud party below us, and when it broke up, they left their fire burning.

For Detroit, I am posting one of my own new paintings. I am, after all, a Detroit artist. :-D

Thursday, July 8, Vacation Day 10

We went to pictured rocks and took 100s of pictures! Showing one seems really sort of silly. The falls you see here is Bridal Veil Falls, and often does not flow during the summer, but we had recently had a large amount of rain.

I have had a medical procedure and am recovering, been unable to keep up the blog.

Click image to view slightly larger.

Wednesday, July 7, Vacation day #9: Overlooked Falls

"Overlooked Falls was the name of this falls, and considering all the incredible falls in the area, I could see why it was called that. It was small and had no particularly exciting features. But we enjoyed seeing it, it was pretty in a laid-back way, and we enjoyed the hike.

The Detroit image is another mural, decrepitating, from Warren Street.

Vacation Day 8, July 6

This was maybe the highlight of the entire trip, hiking along the escarpment at Lake of the Clouds. It was incredibly beautiful. The air was so clean and it was incredibly peaceful.

And for Detroit, more cars from the car show at The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House.

I am having some fairly serious health issues. And since no one seems to come here any more, I may give up blogging entirely.

Vacation Day 7: Falls on the Presque Isle River

On July 5th, the 7th day of our vacation, we hiked the falls loop from the road bridge across the Presque Isle River to the foot bridge to the Island and up the other side past three waterfalls (twice, plus smaller falls and rapids, the wild river, wildflowers and lovely scenery. This is Manabezho Falls.

And for anyone here looking for a Detroit picture, here is an aging mural from Warren Street:

It was decorating the front of a now defunct dance club.

See five more shots and read trip log of this day here.

Vacation Day 6: Mouth of the Presque Isle River

On July 4th, the 6th day of our trip, we drove up to the tippy top of Michigan's Upper Peninsula to the Porcupine Wilderness Area and in to the Presque Isle River Campground. We hiked along Lake Superior and the lower portions of the Presque River.

We watched the sunset over Lake Superior. This was a campground community event.

And since this is a Detroit photoblog, here's another Detroit picture from the car show at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, a 1955 Corvette.

See five more pictures from July 4 and read the day's unedited journal. By unedited, I mean BB has yet to add his 2-cents worth.

Vacation Day 5: Tahquamenon Falls

On the fifth day of our vacation, we drove up to Tahquamenon Falls and hiked around.

This was a big deal for us, because Tahaquamenon falls is where we met. It was an anniversary celebration of sorts.

Back in Detroit, we once again visit the Eye on Design Car Show at the Eleanor and Edsel Ford House where they have not only cars, but also vintage motorcycles.

Day 3 Vacation, Sleeping Bear Dunes

On the third day of our vacation, we explored sleeping bear Dunes. These are just a few of the pictures we took. It was lovely there and we really enjoyed our hikes and our driving tour through the scenic drive.

Back in Detroit, since this is a Detroit photoblog, I've included a hood ornament from an old Packard from the car show at The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House.

We returned early from our vacation because health issues, and those health issues are eating into my time. Sorry.

Vacation, Day 2: Sleeping Bear Dunes, part I

On Day Two of our vacation, we dropped the kid (CB--choir boy) off at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and headed up to sleeping Bear Dunes.

Back in Detroit--a man at Pier Park Shows me a fish he just caught.

Whitehall, MI, Vacation Trip, Day 1

We drove from the Detroit area up to Whitehall, Michigan, where we had dinner at Crosswinds, a lovely restaurant on White Lake. Our table was beside the water. This tugboat was one of many things we could see from the table. The food was excellent.

See 4 more pictures from vacation, day 1, here.

And a Detroit shot: Right before we left, we went to the car show at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House. Here is one of the many images from that show:

So I am home now, back in Detroit, but it will take me a LONG time to get caught up!!! Please be patient!

Roadtrip and Home: Longfellow House, Cranbrook

When we had our walking tour of the Portland Old Port, we stopped at
the Longfellow House.

The Detroit image is the base of a sculpture at Cranbrook. This was
my guess at how I might feel driving a sullen teenage boy to
Whitehall. But it didn't turn out that way. Read more about here.

Roadtrip and Home: Portland Old Port and Cranbrook

Four more from the Portland Old port and one from a fountain at
Cranbrook (here at home).

I had some misadventures yesterday. This will explain why I am behind on commenting--I will try to catch up soon.

Road Trip: Old Port and Detroit

Our next stop after the Portland Headlight was the Portland Old Port.
It was raining of course; it rained the whole time, but we still had a
grand time.

Back at home, we found the squash was enormous!

That's us at Pier Park--ten minutes from home.

And I am leaving today for another road trip up to Northern Michigan.
AND it's raining!

Roadtrip, Day 3 and home to Detroit

We stayed with my daughter in Syracuse, NY and hiked in the rain in
the Quarry behind Syracuse University's Skytop married student
housing, It was rainy and very muddy. It rained for the entire trip,
but we still managed to have a great time. We love quarries and
ruins; it was right up our alley.

It was still raining when we got home. This last shot is of pier park
and a lake-freighter going down the channel in Lake St. Clair. In the
rain. Rain rain rain. It rained again last night but the sky is blue
and the sun is shining now! YAY!

Eager, our rehabilitated squirrel, came to me this morning for the
first time since we returned! YAY! I may post a link here if I have
time.
