Chipmunk at the Pinery (road show)

Today is my birthday. We're celebrating at the Pinery in Ontario Canada--what a delightful place to celebrate. Our little friends cheer us up. Archive picture from last year. We're not online and hopefully will catch up when we return. (posting early)

On the River at the Pinery (road show)

We're camping at the Pinery in Ontario Canada and I posted this ahead. It's a view along the Pinery River. I'll try to catch up on commenting when I return. Click image to view larger. (We're not online up here).

View through the roof of our tent at the sky, Pinery (Road Show)

This view from our tent is from last year. I posted it early. We're not on-line here at the campground in Ontario, Canada.

Off to the Pinery (Road Show)

We found this moth on the bathroom window at the Pinery in the morning (last year). I think it might be a cecropia--does anyone know? Ah, Rose, thank you, it is a Polyphemus Moth.

We are leaving shortly for our yearly memorial day trip. I will not be online while gone--but may post ahead if I have time and will try to catch up commenting when I return. No guarantees on either count.

Off to the Pinery (Road Show)

We are going camping at the Pinery in Ontario, Canada, leaving tomorrow morning. I will not be online while I am gone, but if I have time, I will post a picture a day (ahead) and try to get back later to anyone who comments, no guarantees though, on either count.

Wagons at Pier Park

To carry stuff out onto the pier.

We are going to be away, up at The Pinery in Ontario Camping.

CRANBROOK LION

They trimmed the overgrown yews away from the lions so you can actually see them now. These flank the stairs going up to the manor house. Click to view larger.

Red Admiral, Dodge Park

We rode our bikes at Dodge Park and saw lots of red admiral butterflies. They were pretty skittish, so I was happy to capture one--right on the bike path.

Christ Church Cranbrook

Just outside the Cranbrook School Campus. Many wonderful programs occur here.

Cranbrook Swans

There is lots of water in the Detroit area--and there are lots of swans. These are on Cranbrook lake. There are almost always swans there, as well as ducks and geese.

Decoration on a Large Brass Decorative Outdoor Bowl at Cranbrook

I love the expressions on these two! There are two of these large bowls across from the art museum at Cranbrook, and if you bang one of them, the other picks up the resonance.

Fire Hydrant, Cranbrook

We were back at Cranbrook today with out-of-town company. I'm very far behind blogging, but I will try to catch up when I can. I mean commenting, too, sorry.

Below the Manor House at Cranbrook

These stairs lead up past various statues to the Cranbrook Manor House.

(I'm so sorry I've been absent lately.)

Bench at Cranbrook Bog Garden

A lovely spot to sit and meditate. LOL!

I apologize for being so far behind. I will try to catch up. But we're having out of town company.

And here is my latest painting, "Down on her Luck." This is done in gouache on red paper.

Click on these images to view them larger.

Cranbrook Canoe House

This somewhat ruined building is still used to store canoes at Cranbrook.

And here is my latest painting, called "Sunshine on a Rainy Day." Watercolor.

Clinton River Again

It looks almost like summer, doesn't it? But the leaves aren't really all the way out, and it was NOT warm!

Footbridge over the Clinton River

This bridge leads to a nature center, and even though I used to be a naturalist for many years and worked at a nature center, I've never been to this one.

Dodge Park in May

We rode our bikes on the trails along the Clinton River starting at Dodge Park! What fun!

This is not the river, just a big puddle. The river is yet ahead and to the left.

Largemouth bass from Lake St. Clair held by intrepid fisherman from Pier Park. The little spot shows the magnification.

That IS a party boat in the distance, but the sky over Lake St. Clair is the real subject, LOL!

House in Detroit

The houses in Detroit vary enormously in size and structure. Many are made of brick, in part because of the fires associated with the riots. Currently, many boast flowering trees. (This is not our house, but a house nearby.)

Our own Yard again

Forgive me for publishing pix of our own yard--but it is representative of what you' see if you visited Detroit today. Spring flowers everywhere in great abundance. The first picture is by my husband.

Stoney Creek Metropark

Hiking around at Stoney Creek Metropark--which has a wide variety of habitats. Two of him by me and one of me by him. (I wasn't feeling well.) We were walking in the rain and I'd had bad insomnia the night before.

Boatwells and Freighter, Pier Park

Pier Park is right on Lake St. Clair. You can see that most of the boatwells are still empty. And in the background, a freighter going by in the shipping channel--the rest of the lake is fairly shallow.

The "Secret Garden" Again

The old abandoned gardens at the abandoned house on Canyon are in their glory now--if you call a plethora of weeds glorious. The flowers are wonderful.

I've been terribly busy, I'm sorry. :-(

Here are two of my recent quick sketches. THe first, Medusa when the curse first hits her, is in watercolor, the second in pigment marker and gouache. They are smaller than they appear here.
