New Arrival at Elmwood Cemetery

Over the summer last year, they redid the pond, which used to be a lovely natural environment with ducks and other birds, a place I loved to visit. They ruined it by bulldozing away all the natural plants and putting in rocks and wood chips and little bushes. I didn't photograph it; I was too horrified. They added this monument, which is okay, except did they give the guy a burial "at sea" in the pond, or what? Is his body going to come floating up? Or are his ashes inside the monument? Or what? (There is lots more pond around the monument, but I wanted to capture the geese sculpture.)

Elmwood Cemetery

Elmwood Cemetery contains Michigan's Oldest Jewish Cemetery, from which came the last four in this series. The first two are from Elmwood proper. Thanks to V, I found Grave Addiction | Facebook on Facebook. It might be a place for those of use interested to post photos and exchange info.

More Elmwood Cemetery

Elmwood Cemetery is a wonderful old cemetery near downtown Detroit. I love this bunny. It was not on a child's grave, but on the grave of an eighty-something-year-old woman. If you would like to see more pictures from Elmwood cemetery, click on the label links on the lower right.

We are working at the Rolandale House today and I had to come home briefly for something, but am leaving again immediately so will not be commenting until tomorrow or the next day, probably. Please be patient, I SHOULD be back tomorrow I hope, at least at some point?

Angel, Elmwood Cemetery

Angel, Elmwood Cemetery, with details. Elmwood Cemetery is located off Mt. Elliott Street, off Jefferson, not too far from downtown Detroit. It's a very old cemetery, and pretty. If you click on the labels link on the bottom right, you can see other pictures from Elmwood Cemetery.

Elmwood Cemetery, Buhl Mausoleum

Yesterday, we took a day off from working at the cottage and working my novel and took a walk at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit. It's a very old cemetery and unless something interferes, I will post a few more pictures of it in the upcoming days. It's located near downtown, adjacent to Mr. Elliot Cemetery, off Mt. Elliot Street, which comes off Jefferson, which runs into downtown.

We also walked at the Heidelberg Project and I may post some pictures from there in the next few days as well.

Church at Elmwood

This church is located right outside Elmwood Cemetery.

I wasn't home yesterday or today, so I am behind commenting. Will catch up when I can.

Day and Night (DSO and Elmwood Cemetery)

We were having a snowstorm last night, but we went to the DSO
anyway--a great show, "An American in Paris," Bela Fleck and--old age
and treachery--I've forgotten, but it was good--no pix during the show
though, so this is during intermission at the DSO.

And it snowed all day today, a LOT--we shoiveled a lot--and we braved
the snowy roads and went skiing at Elmwood Cemetery. No one had been
there all day and the security officer came, stood in the snow,
watched us ski and cheered us on as we swooped down the cemetery
hills!

Elmwood and Mt Elliot Cemeteries

1)A lane through Elmwood Cemetery
2)A chapel in the cemetery
3)Elmwood Pond
4)A cyclone fence that runs between Mt. Elliot Cemetery and Elmwood
Cemetery. The two cemeteries are side by side. What is the purpose
of the fence? To keep the dead from mingling, or their bereaved
relative? It's even got barbed wire on top. HUH?

Elmwood Cemetery

Elmwood pond, one of the amputee angels, and two others with fall color. I think the color here may be at its peak right now.

Elmwood Cemetery in November

We are home from our various travels but these pix are from the
archives, exactly a year ago. Haven't been out yet since we returned.

Elmwood Angel

Elmwood Angel, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. Elmwood is an old cemetery in Detroit. The dark stains are from coal burning.
