Signs of Autumn

From the beach, from the pool.

And another scarecrow.

I am hopefully leaving "shortly," though I had a bad night (insomnia) and am running very slow, and behind. I will be back Monday or Tuesday, but I may (or may not) be able to get on-line while I am gone. I will be at The Springfed Writer's Retreat.

The scarecrow is in a neighbor's yard, not mine. Each scarecrow I've shown, except the ones at the Village Market, is in a different (by nearby) location.

More Scarecrows

People in our neighborhood seem to love scarecrows as Hallloween and
auntumn decorations. We have lots!

I am leaving tomorrow for four days in Harbor Springs, MI, up near the
Mackinaw Bridge about 5 hours north of here (300 miles). I don't know
if I'll have internet access or not, so this may (or may not) be my
last poet until I return Monday or Tuesday. I am going to a writing
retreat.

Lake St. Clair

There are little "private" neighborhood parks along the shore of Lake
St. Clair. Some of the ends of the streets that go down to the lake
have little parks. This one is rather stark.

Looking into the bathroom vanity which is reflecting the bathroom window with the leaves outside--then, looking at the leaves directly (through the window). The bathroom wall paper is not really that dark, it just looks that way because it's so much brighter outside. Click on images to view larger.

Autumn Flowers at the Village Market

Yikes! Something went wrong with the first shot. (Seriously--it was flash that went off and made the whole picture weird, so I reshot it.) But I used it anyway, because it looks sort of cool in a garish kind of way. The second one is the "real" one-looks more like the flowers really looked. And the third--more flowers at the Village Market. You can tell it is fall when they are selling mums and flowering cabbage.

I walk there every day from home, it's an 18-minute walk round trip most days. I feel very "continental" shopping daily for my food, and it's very fresh and good and uses much less gasoline, better for the environment.

The Scarecrow Twins (More Autumn in Detroit)

Not only has the weather gotten colder and the days shorter, but all the decorations at the Village Market have morphed as well. These Bobbsey-Twin scarecrows give autumn a cheery feel. I watched shoppers carrying away pumpkin and I took one of the winter squashes and cooked it for dinner last night--the first of the season for us.

Pier Park in Autumn

When I left for my trip, it was still summer! SHorts weather and tank
tops and bare feet. Long evenings. And when I came back it was COLD
and DARK in the evening. This is Pier Park at night. But it isn't
winter yet---there are still boats in the slips.

Autumn!

I'm home. When I left, it was summer and when I returned, it was
autumn. It rained the whole time I was gone. I was camping and got
good and wet, but the Dodge Poetry Festival was fantastic!
