Staying cool at the zoo

All the animals were trying to stay cool, but in the last photo,
there's someone not succeeding--me! There are lots of gardens at the zoo and that reflecting ball was in one them. It reflects me taking a picture of the scene, if you don't see me, try clicking the picture to make it bigger.

Turtle Scultpure, Bear Fountain, Flamingos (Zoo)

I've never seen the turtle sculpture without kids clamoring over it. (I've never seen the zoo as quiet as it was this week, even in winter.) The Flamingos don't seem to mind the heat as much as some of the other animals.

More Zoo

This fresco-painted inner archway is at one of the rest facilities at the Detorit Zoo (click on the image to view it larger). There are pleasant garden pathways to stroll along.

The otter, often very playful, was passed out sleeping in the shade because it was so hot. It wasn't dead though! I could see it breathing!

Caliente--Hot Day at the Detroit Zoo

Many of the animals were sleeping or resting in the shade. Mad dogs
and Englishman . . . and zoo visitors . . . go out in the nonday sun.

Blue Heron Lagoon, Belle Isle, Detroit

It may be September, but the hot lazy hazy days of summer continue
here in Detroit. Many residents flee to the Island where breezes make
it feel a bit cooler.

Belle Isle bridge

BB is painting every day--painting the house in a mad rush to get it done before winter. Scraping and priming so far. He worked seven days last week at GM and came home and painted after work every day until dark and then still had other tasks to do (eg: pay bills etc). And today he has his first day off in 15 days--and he is painting.

So we're not getting out much, folks, sorry to say.

This is an archive picture of the Belle Isle Bridge. It's a very interesting bridge to an interesting island. I wish I could go there, but I am not about to go "play" while BB is hard at work. That
doesn't seem far.

Behind Mr. C's on Mack

Piano Boy wanted a treat and Biker Buddy wanted some beer and I sat
alone in the car in the lot behind Mr. C's on Mack and for some reason
liked the view in a lonely sort of way.

See my latest art piece, from a memory of dreams.

Drought in Detroit

We are having a drought in Detroit. We haven't had any significant
rain in a while and none is predicted in the near future. The ground
is getting cracked and parched, the leaves are turning brown before
they turn color and falling off the trees, the lawns are brown and dry
except for those unenvironemntal types who water them and the sidewalk
and their driveways and the road. Don't they know that estivation is
part of the normal healthy cycle of grass? Aiee!
