Detroit is known for it's fish flies, especially near the water and at certain seasons. This picture was taken last night by a light. Many of the lights looked like this.
To answer a few questions, I'd taken a close-up of one but haven't had time to post it--this may seem odd, but it's on a different computer. Here's a drawing. They are mayflies. More comments about fish flies.

This is a really neat photo. I don't know what fish flies are either. Are they related to mayflies?
Fishflies are mayflies, I added a picture and a little more info.
