Ren Fair and Detroit Zoo

The Michigan Renaissance Festival is listed on line as being "near Detroit." It is actually near Holly, Mi, about an hour north and west of Detroit. We went there Monday. on Labor Day, and I took a gazillion pictures of the people. Here is one, the piper. The second picture is from the Detroit Zoo, for those purists among the citybloggers who insist on pure Detroit. Of course, then I break the rule about posting more than one picture a day (too many rules!) I LOVED the Renaissance Festival. I also love the Zoo! Click images to view larger.

The Butterfly Room

At the Detroit Zoo butterfly room, there are hundreds of butterflies and some of them will land on your finger!

This, thanks to an anonymous commenter, is the malachite butterfly, Siproeta stelenes. One of the interesting things about it is how different it looks when the wings are opened or closed.

The Michigan State Fair (in Detroit)

The Michigan State Fair (in Detroit) is a place to view chickens, rabbits, pigeons, sheep, horses, cows and ride the rides at the midway. Across the street from the entrance is some old midway memoribilia.

Railroad Steam Crane, Greenfield Village

Railroad Steam Crane, Greenfield Village; Greenfield Village is a large living history site associiated with the Henry Ford Museum in Deerborn Michigan. Dearboarn is a suburb of Detroit and the museum and village are considered part of Detroit's attractions. Henry Ford started the village by collecting and moving various famous historical structures and pieces to the village. Click images to view larger.
