The Dunes at Crystal Lake, Michigan (Postcard)

7/9/08 We wandered around on the huge dunes between Crystal Lake and
Lake Michigan. It's hard to convey the impressive size of them.

These are real sand dunes? In Michigan? Cool.

I really don't know that you have desert in Michigan. How big is it?

That is a very pretty area. My mother used to live near Traverse City and we'd go to Crystal Lake every now and then. Very pretty...

These sand dunes are associated with the lake, rather than being "desert" sand dunes, but the conditions on the dunes are similar to a desert. I'm not sure the size exactly, but you could walk around the entire thing in an afternoon, probably. A long afternoon.

There are some in the area that are bigger and more widespread..
