Algae

A few days back, I posted mountain ranges of algae. Here's another view. This is on the shore of Lake St. Clair. On the public beaches, this will all be cleaned up before summer, but in out-of-the way places, it hangs around all year.

The lighthouse is not a real lighthouse, but part of a restaurant. Lighthouses are everywhere around here, both real ones and fake ones.

The algae looks very strange, almost like dirt. I love the lighthouse.

That algae - ugh. But makes for interesting photos.

Is it hard, soft, slimy?

Other-worldly.

It's sinuous and sort of snakey looking!

When it is dry, it is crunchy underfoot and when it is wet, it is wet, slimy, squishy and slipper. Sometimes, it is dry on the top and wet underneath.

Around here, it is very common!!

Thanks for your visit and sweet comments!

These are algae waves. I wonder what the difference between seaweeds and algae is in English...

It's not seaweed, because it's not a "sea" in the sense that it is a lake and freshwater, not saltwater. You could call it "lakeweed." I think algae is the more "technical" term and seaweed or lakeweed is the more "common" term?
