Sunset at Balduck Park

This is the local park where all the dog-walkers come. It's not an official dog park, but the people let their dogs run loose, and the dogs come and bark viciously at anyone else (any "strangers.") The dog walkers then say, "oh, he won't hurt you," but he nips at you and growls meanly. I like dogs--but I prefer friendly ones. And I'd like to be able to use the park unthreatened. It's very close to where I live.

On the far left, you can see a few houses. The park is not very wide at this point. I am standing at one edge and you can see where it ends on the other side. However, it is fairly long for a small urban park.

Winter is hard on animals and birds. This is a dead downy woodpecker. I don't know what killed it, but it probably wasn't a predator, or it would have been eaten.

The sun rays coming through the trees are beautiful.

I live in the country, so it's hard to image having a park for the dogs to run in. :)

When I attended Austin High School - which is now the home for the elderly between Mack & Warren - we used to run along the perimeter of Balduck. It was the part between Warren and Chandler Park, where the athletic facilities were: the diamonds, archery, tennis courts, etc.

And this photo is the portion beyond Chandler Park, bordered by Canyon and Radnor.

I was born on Chandler Park, and I went to Jared Finney school. It was not a High School at that time.

Poor guy! Why is it always the dog owners who say that, own the dogs that do?

Super photo, Mary! It's like the sun is threatening what's left of the snow: "Ain't got much time, now! You're soon gonna be all gone!"

I agree re: dogs. People are afraid of our Haley who is probably the gentlest thing in the world and believes people are created just to pet her...nevertheless we keep her on a leash when out walking. And, I'm sorry, but some dogs are not trustworthy when it comes to strangers...

So sad about the bird. Probably froze to death?

Poor little bird. You could have used your beautiful top photo for Sky Watch Friday. I like the sun through the trees......

Thank you all for your very kind comments.

Montag, I guess I live near where you spent part of your life. I know that senior center.

I like to walk in the dog park, and don't get me wrong, I like, even love dogs, but not ones who seem to want to bite me. (I used to raise dogs, so I've been on both ends of the equation!)
